Calvary @ Horizon 4/12/12

          Lion's Maul the Panthers
Following their Lion's Tournament championship, the Calvary Christian Lions maintained their momentum and soundly defeated the Horizon Panthers 17-1.

In their strongest offensive performance of the year, Calvary pounded out 20 hits led by senior Isaac Conover who was 3 for 4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's.

The Lion pitching staff also continued their dominance as four Calvary hurlers combined to limit the Panthers to only one hit, a 5th inning groundball through the 5.5 hole. They allowed no earned runs lowering their team ERA to 1.50 on the season.

Though not their best pitching performance of the season as evidenced by 7 walks and a hit by pitch, their stuff was good enough to limit the hits and continually pitch their way out of the trouble they created.

Sophomore David Carpenter started the game throwing 2 shutout innings. He was followed by Sam Sheehan who also tossed 2 shutout innings. Conover threw 2 allowing the only hit and one unearned run, and senior Brock Bentley threw a perfect 7th inning.

But the true highlight of the game was the Lion's offensive attack. Caleb Whitley and Matt Hartman each had 3 hits of their own and Russell Harmening, Sheehan, Carpenter and Gordon Nixon each chipped in two apiece. Freshman Kallin Iwasaki and seniors Brock Bentley and Sam Hebert also added hits to the attack.

Harmening led with 3 RBI's and Whitley and Carpenter, along with Conover had 2 each.

The win was Calvary's 6th straight and improves their record to 13-4 overall. Citrus League play begins next week as Calvary tries to defend their 2011 title. Last year they finished a perfect 9-0 in league play.
