Calvary @ San Diego High School

                           Calvary Clubs Cavers *
The Calvary Lions, still fired up from their last inning, come-from-behind
victory two days earlier kept up the momentum and decisively put away the
San Diego High School Cavers 11-0.

The win lifts Calvary's record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the 31st Annual
Pirate/Falcon Classic keeping them in contention for the championship.

The Lion's used 4 pitchers in the combined shutout allowing only 3 hits and
striking out 9 Caver batters.

Senior ace Russell Harmening started the game and worked 3 nearly flawless
innings allowing only a bloop single in the first inning. He struck out 6
and walked none. Brock Bentley, Matt Hartman and Alex Nurding shared the
next 4 innings and kept the shutout and the win intact.

Calvary pounded out 10 hits led by two each from Caleb Whitley, Sam Sheehan
and Alex Nurding.

The Lions threatened to score in the first inning but stranded two runners.
They were able to get the runners across in the second when they broke the
game open scoring 4 runs. A leadoff walk to senior Isaac Conover started the
rally and Nurding followed with a hard line-single to left. Bentley then hit
a shallow popup to center that was lost in the sun and fell for a hit
loading the bases. Freshman Kallin Iwasaki, in his first high school start,
drew a walk to force in a run and picked up his first career RBI. The second
run scored on a hard-hit RBI groundout by sophomore Davey Carpenter. A
throwing error by the Caver shortstop plated Calvary's third run and Whitley
followed by stepping up and banging a line shot to left for his second hit
of the day driving in the the fourth run of the inning.

Calvary threatened but was held scoreless in the 3rd and 4th innings but
managed to increase their lead to 7-0 by scoring 3 more in the fifth.
Sheehan got the inning going by belting a deep double over the
centerfielder's head landing just out of his reach. Harmening lined a solid
single to left easily scoring Sheehan. Gordon Nixon reached when he bounced
a ball to third that was misplayed by the fielder and Conover drew his
second walk of the day to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Harmening from
third and Nurding grounded out scoring another.

They added one in the 6th when Whitley drew a one-out walk and advanced to
third on Sheehan's second double of the day, a towering fly ball to
right-center. A wild pitch scored Whitley giving Calvary an 8-0 lead.

They capped off the game scoring 3 more in the top of the 7th when Nurding
lead off with a walk and was replaced with pinch runner Chase Kollenda. Sam
Athas then lined a solid single up the middle for hit and freshman Anthony
Martin worked a great at bat and earned a walk to once again load the bases
for Calvary. Freshman Andrew Leakey, pinch hitting for Whitley, drew an RBI
walk as did Sheehan who walked to force in another. The scoring ended when
Martin scored on a Harmening RBI groundout.

Overall it was well-played performance and every player on the time
contributed to the victory.

The Lion's next challenge is against Fallbrook High School where they will
be taking on a tough Warrior team at 2:30 on Saturday.
